HOW TO BUILD A CAMPFIRE:

A STEP BY STEP GUIDE

One of the things campers looking forward when they’re off in adventure is the thrill of building a campfire in the wild.
There are a number of different reasons to light a fire. You could be using it to power your cooking efforts, or to keep you warm in a cold night.
No matter for what reason, just follow these 6 basic step and you’ll be warm for the rest of his life.

Build a man a fire, and he’ll be warm for a day. Show him how to build a fire, and he’ll be warm for the rest of his life.

STEP 1: PREPARE IT

Create your fire bed and gather your fire wood

If your campsite has designated fire pits, always use them. If you’re wild camping, use a pre-existing fire bed whenever possible.
Sometimes you have to build your own. The fire bed should be on a dirt platform and not grass. If you can’t find a place like this,
just dig away grass and pile up some dirt to a little platform. Also use a ring of rocks toocontain the fire.
You’ll need to gather three types of fire wood to build your campfire.
Tinder: Tinder will catch fire easily and burn fast. Material such as grass, bark or dry leaves will start your fire perfectly
Kindling: Like tinder, kindling needs to be very dry otherwise it won’t burn as good. Try to gather small branches or .
Fuel: It’s always good to have a wide range of different sized branches and logs for your main fuel. So try to find a range of branches and logs.

STEP 2: BUILD IT

Build your campfire and prepare it for lighting

There are several ways to build your campfire depending on what your needs are. The easiest and most common way
is called tepee. To build the tepee, just place your tinder in the centre of your fire pit. Then start building a tepee around
and above it by using your kindling wood. Try to leave small gaps so the air can still circulate to start the fire.

STEP 3: LIGHT IT

Light your Campfire to

When lighting your campfire you want to alight the tinder in the center of your tepee as quickly as possible.
You can light the timber trough the gaps. To alight your fire you can use matches or a cigarette lighter.
I prefer to light some tinder and than use it as a torch to light the rest in the center of the campfire

STEP 4: FEED IT

Start building up your Campfire

Once your fire is burning, it’s time to feed it. Build up your campfire slowly and steadily by using your fuel wood. S
tart using your the thinner branches and build it up to the larger logs. Keep in mind that fire needs a good air circulation
to burn properly. So be careful and leave gaps for a good airflow.

STEP 5: ENJOY IT

Enjoy your campfire and relax to the crackling sound

After your build up your fire and it’s burning well you can start to enjoying it. Start cooking dinner, roast some marshmallows
or just listen to the sound of fire.

CHECK THE LOCAL FIRE REGULATIONS

Most importantly, always know and follow the fire regulations of the area you’re visiting.
These can vary from place to place, so be aware of the fire risk and just light a campfire when it’s save to do so.
